Plan SEO Title, Meta Tags and URLs with Excel

One of our favorite blogs, Search Engine Journal, recently recommended utilizing Excel Spreadsheets to aid in the planning and implementation of your on-page SEO (ie. title tags, meta tags and URL structure).

There are two very important tips from the post that I thought I would highlight below.

  1. Pay attention to length! By using an Excel column with the LEN() function, you can monitor the character counts of the cell of your choice. This is particularly important for the Title tag (Google only shows 70 characters in search results) and for the meta description column which is usually limited to 154 characters.
  2. A column containing H1, H2 and other information which you will use on each page would also be recommended. When it comes to copywriting this will help act as an outline for both copywriters and yourself.
